A Trailer Would’ve Been Easier

Well once again I have gotten behind on my blogging. Sorry everyone, but when things get moving on the ranch, there’s no spare time to be had! Fall has absolutely flown by, but I am happy to report that we’ve officially broken ground on the house site!!! Yay! It’s only taken 5 years to get here. Ha! We’re starting to think it would’ve been much easier to live in a big trailer on our land, instead of building a house. However, I’m sure come January, a trailer won’t sound so inviting…not to mention we don’t have water or septic yet. Eek!

Excavation of the house site started a few weeks ago, and boy has there been a transformation! It actually looks like someone could build a house there! I guess we’d better get serious! :) Once the initial excavation was done, Kris and I decided to take on the fun task of staking out the foundation footings. Do we know how to do that, you ask? Nope! Kris read up on how to interpret blueprints, we bought some stakes, spray paint and string, and off we went! There may be a little green spray paint on our shoes, and I’m pretty sure my quads will never recover from being in a squat position much of the day, but we successfully marked off the footings for the foundation framers, and are ready for our final soils testing next week. After that, we pray for 3 days of warm weather so the foundation crew can come in and pour concrete! We already had a taste of winter this week with snow and single digit temps, but we’re counting on the Colorado sun to do it’s job so we can complete the foundation before Christmas! It’ll be so exciting to actually see the foundation and retaining walls in place. That would be a wonderful Christmas present!

I guess you can say the New Year will truly bring a fresh new start!
